India - Late 80s. Picking up from Nirma success, Lalitaji sells Surf in breaks of Arun Paunchy Gowil's intolerable and widely worshipped portrayal of Rama (wouldn't miss an episode then). Buniyaad sets buniyaad for far more horrendous soaps to come and Baba Sehgal never apologises for making a horrible copy of an even horrible song the first pop album of the country (in fact, he even goes on to produce Mrs.420 - loved both at that time - the film and his music). It seems Amar Chitra Katha is the only non-violent thing to have happened to my generation in the wonder years. What if its aesthetically under-evolved? (Well no, actually. There were Malgudi Days, Bharat Ek Khoj and Tamas to save the day).
Am planning to make a series out of this one... so more to come soon. Meanwhile it'll be great if somebody can send me a pic of the 80s handheld water game and a still from the Tobu Cycle TVC?!

This brings out so many nostalgic memories from my childhood. Despite the understandable mediocrity (due to the newness of the medium) of TV, radio, print media and celluloid of those days, they all had a passion for quality and a certain innocence, that's missing these days. Nowadays it is all hype, and the audience's attention span is so much diverted and diversified.
I can still remember the crowds that would gravitate during the evenings towards those lucky (or unlucky, if you were the host) homes which had a B&W TV (with those wooden shutters!). When Mahabharat or Ramayan were playing, the whole country used to come to a standstill (a feat repeated only years later by Kaun Banega Crorepathi, with Amitabh Bachchan's rich baritones and amazing personality)!
We used to be able to recite every advertisement in those days, and nowadays all the ads feel the same (except for rare ones such as the memorable Hutch "You 'n' I, in the beautiful world" pug dog ads, or the funny Vodafone Zoozoo ads, or the unique Happident ads).
India is changing very fast. As the rural areas are slowly becoming urbanized, and the urban people becoming more addicted to capitalism, the older ways of life (which were actually healthier and fun) are being discarded and forgotten in our pursuit of materialistic dreams within the concrete jungles. So it is good that artists like you still take the time out to recapture those nostalgic days from history, and showcase it to the world. We should celebrate the anachronisms and achievements of the good old days, even if it's with a tongue-in-cheek parody!
